Pre-Race: The car Kevin Harvick will drive in the Coca-Cola 600 is a brand-new Chevrolet out of the Richard Childress Racing stable. It had never been on a race track before this weekend.
In 16 points-paying races at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Harvick has just one top-five finish, a second-place showing in May 2001 -- his first ever Cup start at Lowe's. He has two other top-10 efforts, an eighth in October 2001 and a 10th in October 2003.
After starting sixth here last fall, Harvick qualified 22nd for the Coca-Cola 600.
Team owner Richard Childress has five wins in 103 starts at Lowe's, four with Dale Earnhardt and one last fall by Jeff Burton. As a driver, Childress himself scored two top-10 finishes at the 1.5-mile facility.
