Lap 160: Harvick gets a fender under Vickers between turns one and two, but isn't able to make the pass. He tries again in the final turn, but settles for sixth place. It's his first top-10 finish since running fourth March 8 at Atlanta. Harvick's car will be one of the random tear-downs in post-race inspection.
Lap 157: Harvick has caught Vickers for fifth place.
Lap 154: Crew chief Gil Martin tells Harvick that if he doesn't think he can catch Vickers for fifth place, to drop back and conserve fuel. Harvick asks if he has to save gas, and Martin says that he doesn't.
Lap 153: Harvick appears to be reeling in Brian Vickers for fifth place.
Lap 150: Ten laps to go, and Harvick is still sixth. He trails leader Jimmie Johnson by about six seconds.
Lap 147: Teammate Jeff Burton, who is one lap down, pulls over for Harvick coming off turn four.
Lap 145: With 15 laps to go, sixth-place Harvick trails leader Jimmie Johnson by 5.29 seconds.
Lap 144: Harvick passes Kasey Kahne for sixth between turns three and four.
Lap 140: There are 20 laps to go.
Lap 136: The extended caution ends with Harvick in seventh place.
Lap 132: Harvick asks if he's "all good" on fuel, and crew chief Gil Martin says that he is by about two laps.
Lap 127: Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s engine detonates coming off turn four to bring out the caution.
Lap 126: The leaders have all stopped, and Harvick is now up to eighth, 11.34 seconds behind leader Mark Martin.
Lap 125: Crew chief Gil Martin says to run hard for a little while, but if the race continues under green flag conditions, they might have to save fuel at the end. Harvick says that he can't hear anything that Martin has been saying.
Lap 124: Harvick is on pit road. The crew bolts on four tires and crew chief Gil Martin tells the gasman to "pack it, pack it" full of fuel. The stop lasts 15 seconds. It's the quickest stop of the day so far.
Lap 123: Harvick is told to pit the next time around. When they stop, he'll be about 2 1/2 laps short on his fuel supply.
Lap 122: Harvick says, "That was either a really big rain drop, or somebody squirted something out of the grandstands."
Lap 121: Reutimann finally gives up 10th place to Harvick on the frontstretch. After taking the spot, Harvick asks if the team should leave the tire's air pressure the same and make a track bar adjustment.
Lap 120: Harvick is on David Reutimann's bumper for 10th place as they enter turn one.
Lap 118: Harvick now trails 10th-place David Reutimann by just a couple of car lengths. Harvick's next stop should be in about five laps.
Lap 113: Harvick appears to have knocked a couple car lengths off of Reutimann's advantage.
Lap 112: Harvick tells the crew to make the same changes as it did on the previous stop.
Lap 110: There are 50 laps left. Harvick is 11th, 16.4 seconds behind leader Juan Pablo Montoya. The team has to make at least one more pit stop.
Lap 108: David Reutimann, who currently runs 10th, holds a fairly consistent lead of several car lengths over Harvick.
Lap 105: Harvick's spotter tells him that he's a tenth of a second quicker than the leader.
Lap 99: Harvick says the car is much different on this set of tires than on the last. He doesn't elaborate.
Lap 93: After the round of green-flag stops, Harvick is 11th, 15.17 seconds behind leader Juan Pablo Montoya. He adds that if the team wins the race, it won't be on pit road.
Lap 92: Harvick says that as slow as the last stop was, he hopes all the lugs are tight on the car.
Lap 90: Gordon elects to come into the pits, so Harvick follows him a lap earlier than planned. The crew completes its third stop of the day in 16.4 seconds.
Lap 88: Harvick has 10th-place Jeff Gordon in his sights, with just three laps remaining until his next stop.
Lap 86: Crew chief Gil Martin says the team is five laps away from its next stop, during which Harvick will take on four fresh tires.
Lap 81: Harvick finally gets by Bowyer for 11th.
Lap 80: Eighty laps down, 80 to go. Harvick is 12th, 12.95 seconds behind leader Juan Pablo Montoya.
Lap 78: Harvick says looking at the rear of Bowyer's car -- with its Cheerios signage on the rear bumper -- is making him hungry. He seems to be in a much better mood now.
Lap 71: Harvick passes Richard Childress Racing teammate Clint Bowyer for 12th between turns one and two. Maybe Harvick should drive mad all the time.
Lap 69: The march to the top 10 continues for Harvick. He gets under Reed Sorenson for 12th in turn two.
Lap 62: Harvick passes a clump of cars on the restart, and is now up to 16th.
Lap 62: After holding the restart for a lap, Harvick is running 20th when the green flag comes back out.
Lap 59: The nicest thing Harvick has said since the stop is, "We'll just run like mid-packers. ... We're just out here riding around." Harvick then calls out the team's vice president of competition, saying, "I hope you're listening, Mike Dillon."
Lap 58: Back on the track, Harvick is still livid.
Lap 58: Harvick and the rest of the lead-lap cars drop onto pit road. Harvick's second stop of the day takes 17 seconds to complete. Harvick is not happy with the stop.
Lap 57: The caution comes out after Kyle Busch slaps the wall. Because the car got tighter as the run went on, Harvick admits to being nervous about which direction to go with changes during the team's upcoming stop.
Lap 53: The car is too tight in turns one and two. He can make up ground on 16th-place Marcos Ambrose in turns three and four, but not at the other end of the track.
Lap 51: Harvick is still 17th, 26.61 seconds behind leader Juan Pablo Montoya. On the track, that's approximately half a lap.
Lap 48: Harvick says he's leaning pretty heavily on the right-rear tire. He's still loose.
Lap 41: The Shell Chevrolet is getting a little bit better, according to Harvick.
Lap 37: Harvick says that whatever changes the crew made, the car is now worse than what it was before the stop.
Lap 34: After the leaders cycle through their stops, Harvick is running 17th, 20.97 seconds behind leader Juan Pablo Montoya. Again, Harvick says that he's loose in the turns.
Lap 33: Harvick asks if the crew tightened him up any on the stop.
Lap 32: Harvick has some sort of problem and appears to be slowing. He says the car is too loose.
Lap 30: Nothing appeared to be wrong with the tires, according to crew chief Gil Martin.
Lap 28: Harvick rolls onto pit road for four tires and fuel. The stop lasts 15.8 seconds.
Lap 27: Harvick says the vibration is getting worse, so he'll be pitting the next lap.
Lap 26: Harvick has some sort of vibration. If it gets worse, Martin tells him to come in.
Lap 25: The team plans to pit in about five laps, unless the leaders come in sooner.
Lap 20: Harvick is now up to 18th, 16.86 seconds behind leader Juan Pablo Montoya. He says the car is a little free when he touches the throttle.
Lap 18: Harvick doesn't want to make any major changes during his first pit stop.
Lap 16: Harvick says that it's hard to pass, and crew chief Gil Martin tells him that basically the entire field is strung out single file.
Lap 14: Harvick gets under Kenseth for 19th place coming into turn four.
Lap 14: Harvick closes in on Kenseth's bumper, but isn't able yet to make a move for the position.
Lap 10: Harvick appears to have settled into 20th place, although he's just a car-length or so behind 19th-place Matt Kenseth and Martin Truex Jr., who runs 18th.
Lap 4: The green flag is out again with Harvick running 18th.
Lap 2: Harvick asks his crew to keep an eye on the grille of his car, saying, "There's SO much trash out here."
Lap 1: The caution comes out for Robby Gordon's spin in turn four.
2:27 p.m.: The Allstate 400 at the Brickyard is underway. The race is scheduled for 160 laps on the 2.5-mile layout.
2:22 p.m.: Another pace lap has been added to clean debris from the track, which according to ESPN, is associated with the pre-race ceremonies.
2:20 p.m.: Team owner Richard Childress wishes Harvick and the crew well, telling them, "We know how to win this thing."
2:19 p.m.: Harvick will enter pit road at 4,700 rpm.
2:16 p.m.: The field begins to roll off pit road. The race will go green the third time by the starter's stand.
2:13 p.m.: A crew member is told to check the right-side window on Harvick's car, due to bystanders with cameras trying to get their shots.
2:12 p.m.: The command to fire engines is given by Mary Hulman George.
Race-Day: 2:05 p.m.: Indiana native Casey Jamerson sings the National Anthem.
Pre-Race: The car Kevin Harvick will drive in this week's race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been raced only one other time, at Chicagoland, where he finished 19th.
Harvick qualified 19th for the Allstate 400. He has now started 18th (2008), 19th and 20th (2007) in the last three races here. It's by several postions his best starting spot in the last four events.
Harvick has one win at the Brickyard, in 2003, when he scored the victory from the pole. In all, the California native has three top-five and five top-10 finishes here.
Team owner Richard Childress has two wins at Indy -- Dale Earnhardt in 1995 and Harvick in 2003.
