Lap 500: Kyle Busch holds Mark Martin off for the win. Harvick is credited with a 38th-place finish, 61 laps down.
Lap 458: Crew chief Gil Martin says to "pull the plug" on making repairs. Harvick is shown in 36th place, 20 laps down to leader Kyle Busch.
Lap 451: The plan is to hopefully get Harvick back on the track for the last lap, but crew chief Gil Martin says the damage is pretty severe.
Lap 447: Upon further review, Harvick got together with Bowyer coming off turn four. As he checked up to give Bowyer room to collect his car, Harvick was turned from behind by Jamie McMurray.
Lap 443: The mishap was evidently caused by contact with Clint Bowyer, Harvick's Richard Childress Racing teammate. Bowyer's spotter apologized, and Harvick admits it wasn't Bowyer's fault.
Lap 438: Harvick gets spun in traffic. There's quite a bit of damage to the car, and he takes it directly to the garage.
Lap 432: The race is back under green. Harvick is 15th. Harvick takes the car directly to the garage.
Lap 428: Crew chief Gil Martin sounds like he's getting impatient. "It's not raining as hard now as it was when we were racing," he says.
Lap 423: Despite discussing the possibility of staying out due to the weather, Harvick comes in for a pit stop. The stop lasts 15.2 seconds, again quickest of the night.
Lap 419: The seventh caution of the night comes out, this time for rain. The radar is evidently showing pockets of rain all over the area.
Lap 415: Harvick says that it's raining. The spotter says he's feeling a few drops where he is atop the suites.
Lap 412: Harvick clears Waltrip.
Lap 409: Harvick is challenging Michael Waltrip for 14th place, but Waltrip isn't giving it up very easily.
Lap 401: There are 100 laps to go. Harvick is 15th, 9.84 seconds behind leader Jimmie Johnson.
Lap 394: Harvick finally gets around Reed Sorenson for 15th place.
Lap 387: After saying he had a tire falling off, Harvick has been able to maintain position. He's going after Reed Sorenson for 15th place.
Lap 372: Harvick says he's "pretty sure" a tire is coming loose.
Lap 362: The green flag back out, Harvick is running 16th.
Lap 360: Crew chief Gil Martin tells Harvick, "Keep doing what you're doing."
Lap 357: Harvick brings the Shell Chevrolet into its pit stall for four tires and fuel. On the clock, the stop lasts 15.4 seconds, the best of the night. Again, there's no comment from Harvick.
Lap 355: David Gilliland pounds the wall in turn four to bring out the caution. Harvick says that he can't turn in the center of the corner like he needs to.
Lap 348: Using the spotter's advice, Harvick goes to the high side of Jamie McMurray for 15th place.
Lap 345: Harvick's spotter tells him that he's running a tenth of a second faster when he takes a higher line around the track.
Lap 332: Jamie McMurray is trying to hold Harvick off for 15th place.
Lap 317: Sam Hornish Jr. falls to Harvick, losing 16th place.
Lap 297: Harvick slides by Jeff Gordon on the backstretch for 18th place.
Lap 285: Harvick is stuck behind a pack of cars that includes Dale Earnhardt Jr. David Reutimann and David Ragan.
Lap 272: Brian Vickers and Harvick go door to door for a lap, before Harvick finally takes over 19th place.
Lap 264: Harvick is running 22nd as the green flag comes back.
Lap 257: Just before stopping, Harvick says not to go crazy on adjustments. He makes his third stop of the night in 15.6 seconds, nearly three full seconds quicker than the last time he was on pit road. There's no comment from behind the wheel.
Lap 255: Now, the caution is out for debris. Martin was within shouting distance of lapping Harvick. Harvick says the car would've been good had they been on the same tire cycle as everybody else.
Lap 252: John Andretti slaps the wall, but there's no caution to help save Harvick from going a lap down.
Lap 239: Leader Mark Martin is closing in on Harvick, and now trails him by only three cars and about half a straightaway.
Lap 234: It's been nearly 100 laps since Harvick last pitted, but there's been no mention of having to stop any time soon.
Lap 215: Harvick, Regan Smith and Casey Mears have been staging a wicked battle the last 10 laps or so. Harvick is currently listed in 22nd place.
Lap 193: Harvick has lost several spots in traffic, and is now running 23rd. He's 10.57 seconds behind leader Mark Martin. That's a little more than a full straightaway on the track.
Lap 176: Mired in heavy traffic, Harvick hasn't said a word since the restart.
Lap 171: The race is back under way. Harvick is 15th, back up to where he was before the last pit stop.
Lap 168: More Harvick ... "I'm terrified to pit."
Lap 166: Harvick stays on the track, telling the crew, "It's better to stay off pit road, I think."
Lap 164: The caution is out for Bobby Labonte's spin. Harvick asks, "You want to pit now, so we don't have to race anybody on pit road?"
Lap 158: Harvick is still mad. He says, "This is why you've gotta learn how to make a pit stop."
Lap 157: Michael Waltrip isn't giving up 17th place very easily.
Lap 153: Harvick says he's got a tire coming off.
Lap 150: Harvick is at the tail end of a huge pack of traffic.
Lap 145: After the green flag is waved off a lap, Harvick is 18th on the restart.
Lap 139: Harvick is still fuming about the stop, which took 18.4 seconds to finish.
Lap 137: Crew chief Gil Martin asks Harvick if he just wants two tires, and Harvick wants four. They take four on the stop. The stop isn't to Harvick's liking. "I don't know what to say ... I guess I can't say anything."
Lap 135: The caution is out for debris from A.J. Allmendinger's car. Harvick says that while the car got better initially, it started to get tighter later in the run.
Lap 125: Harvick finally gets by Earnhardt for 15th place.
Lap 122: Harvick has caught Earnhardt and Gilliland, but they've been racing side by side, leaving Harvick little or no room to move.
Lap 114: Harvick is trying to track down Dale Earnhardt Jr. and David Gilliland. It's a chase that has been going on for several laps now. He trails Earnhardt by maybe five car lengths.
Lap 94: The car is getting better. Harvick says it came around three or four laps after the stop.
Lap 89: Harvick has cleared a pack of traffic that included Robby Gordon, Jeff Gordon and Brian Vickers. Harvick is currently shown 18th, 8.3 seconds behind leader Mark Martin.
Lap 75: Harvick comes back on the radio and says quickly, "We're tighter than we were."
Lap 70: Harvick is 20th on the restart.
Lap 68: Team owner Richard Childress tells crew chief Gil Martin that they need to talk Monday about brakes, which seem to already be hot on all the organization's cars. Harvick chips in that he's having to use his brakes hard because of the car's ill handling. Childress gives him a "10-4."
Lap 66: Harvick is pitting on the backstretch. He's in for four tires, fuel and adjustments. It takes the crew 16.4 seconds to complete its work. Harvick says, "We didn't do too bad. We only lost five (positions)."
Lap 64: Denny Hamlin has a flat tire and when he can't get down off the racing surface, the caution comes out. Harvick says his car "just sucks."
Lap 52: There's a little bit of frustration in Harvick's voice. He said he can't afford to loose his forward bite, a problem he says the team has been facing all weekend.
Lap 46: Greg Biffle is currently leading the race, 10.32 seconds ahead of 17th-place Harvick. On the track, that's a little less than half a lap.
Lap 37: Harvick says he's "way too tight" off the corners for some reason.
Lap 29: Harvick has been locked door to door with Jimmie Johnson for at least a lap and a half. Johnson eventually takes 16th.
Lap 18: Harvick's spotter has been on the radio constantly so far tonight, trying to help his driver negotiate traffic.
Lap 16: The race goes back to green, with Harvick in 17th place.
Lap 11: Rookie Joey Logano crashes, bringing out the event's first caution.
Lap 5: Dave Blaney slaps the wall on the backstretch, forcing the field just in front of Harvick to stack up momentarily.
7:50 p.m.: Green flag!!!
7:48 p.m.: Cars are now on the track. The race will go green the next time by the starters' stand.
7:41 p.m.: Darrell Bates, grand marshal, gives the command to fire engines. Tonight's race will be 500 laps of Bristol goodness!!!
7:33 p.m.: The children of drivers and crew members sing the National Anthem, an annual tradition at the Bristol night race.
7:32 p.m.: Dave Stauffer, a chaplain with the Army National Guard, gives the invocation.
Race Day, 4 p.m.: Harvick will start 16th in tonight's race. It's his best starting spot since also beginning 16th on the road course at Sonoma, eight races ago. He started 30th here in the spring.
Pre-Race: The car Kevin Harvick is driving this weekend at Bristol has been raced on no less than 15 previous occasions. Clint Bowyer used it a total of 13 times between 2007 and 2008, while Casey Mears drove it at Bristol in the spring of this year. Harvick also steered it to a 17th-place finish at Dover in May.
In 17 Cup starts at Bristol, Harvick has one win (in April 2005, after also winning the previous day's Busch Series event), nine top-five and 11 top-10 finishes.
Team owner Richard Childress has a total of 112 Cup starts at Bristol, with nine wins -- seven with Dale Earnhardt and one each with Harvick and Jeff Burton.
