Kevin Harvick: Richmond

Lap 400: Harvick finishes ninth. It's second his second top-10 finish in a row. Not since the last three races of the 2008 season has Harvick scored top 10s in consecutive events.

Lap 398: Jimmie Johnson tries going high around Harvick, but it doesn't stick.

Lap 396: Brian Vickers, on The Chase bubbles, is trying his best to keep Harvick from taking over eighth place.

Lap 387: Harvick is 10th when the green comes back out.

Lap 383: Most of the lead-lap cars pit. The stops lasts 15.8 seconds, and Harvick isn't so happy. "We absolutely suck on pit road," Harvick says. "It's not fair to sit in this thing and know you've gotta pit like that. How many weeks are you gonna let it go?"

Lap 381: The caution is out. Although he's safe on fuel, Harvick plans to pit again to undo the chassis adjustments.

Lap 374: Harvick is finally in the clear for eighth place.

Lap 371: Johnson and Harvick are still side by side.

Lap 369: Harvick has finally gotten under Jimmie Johnson, trying to take away eighth place.

Lap 363: Harvick says the car is tight in the center of the turns, and "sideways up off."

Lap 342: The car, Harvick says, is as "loose as we've been all night."

Lap 334: The green flag is out. Harvick is eighth.

Lap 327: Michael Waltrip wrecks on the frontstretch to bring out the yellow flag.

Lap 326: Harvick is eighth on the restart.

Lap 322: Harvick makes what should be his final stop of the night. The stop lasts 16 seconds, and he drops one spot in the running order, to eighth. So far, there's no comment from the cockpit.

Lap 320: The caution is out. Harvick says he could be a little bit tighter. He's currently in seventh place.

Lap 313: Jimmie Johnson moves up the track between turns one and two, allowing Harvick to get position on him. In the process, Harvick takes seventh.

Lap 309: Harvick slides underneath Vickers coming off turn four to retake eighth place.

Lap 306: Harvick is on eighth-place Brian Vickers' bumper.

Lap 301: Juan Pablo Montoya gives up ninth place to Harvick.

Lap 300: One hundred laps to go.

Lap 298: Harvick finally gets past Hornish going down the backstretch. He's now in 10th place, 5.86 seconds behind leader Denny Hamlin.

Lap 295: Harvick is working on Sam Hornish Jr. to get back into the top 10.

Lap 288: The scoreboard shows Harvick in 11th place on the restart.

Lap 283: "I can't remember the last time we gained (spots) on a pit stop," Harvick continues. "We've taken ourselves completely out (of contention in the pits) tonight."

Lap 282: Harvick makes his stop, but it's not a good one. "I don't know why we even race," Harvick responds.

Lap 281: Harvick asks for his windshield tearoff to be removed, and for some water.

Lap 279: Martin Truex Jr. pops the wall. The caution is out.

Lap 277: Harvick doesn't want his lap times, because he says, "I'm doing all I can gto hang on."

Lap 266: Crew chief Gil Martin says the team is about 40 laps from its next scheduled stop. Harvick is still unhappy with the car.

Lap 258: Harvick says he needs to pit, but rethinks it. "It's just a bad adjustment," he says.

Lap 252: Clint Bowyer takes seventh from Harvick, and then Kyle Busch goes by for eighth.

Lap 251: Sam Hornish Jr. goes to the high side coming off turn two to take sixth place. Harvick says that his right rear tire is gone.

Lap 244: According to Harvick, he "can't even touch the throttle."

Lap 234: Jimmie Johnson has been able to hold Harvick off so far.

Lap 227: Depsite his handling problems, Harvick has caught up to fifth-place Jimmie Johnson.

Lap 225: Harvick says that the chassis changes "absolutely ruined it."

Lap 219: Harvick asks what changes were made on the stop, and says that the car is too loose.

Lap 215: Harvick passes Kyle Busch ... again ... for sixth place.

Lap 212: Green flag! Harvick is back to seventh.

Lap 207: Harvick pit stop takes just 14.8 seconds to complete. It's the best stop of the night by about half a second. Despite the quick stop, Harvick is frustrated that Kyle and Kurt Busch beat him off pit road again.

Lap 205: Regan Smith pounds the wall between turns one two. The caution is out. Harvick says the car is better, and he and crew chief Gil Martin discuss what changes to make ... or not to make.

Lap 200: Crossed flags ... the race has now reached the halfway point. Harvick is sixth, 2.96 seconds behind leader Denny Hamlin.

Lap 194: Kyle Busch falls to Harvick, who is now in sixth place.

Lap 181: Harvick holds down seventh place as the race goes back to green.

Lap 176: Harvick says that somebody needs to punch Tony Gibson, Ryan Newman's crew chief, in the mouth, because Newman pitted short again. Harvick says that if it happens again, he's going to hit Newman's tire into the middle of pit road ... he'd hate for it to be one of Newman's crew members.

Lap 175: The leaders are on pit road. The stop is another good one, clocking in at 15.4 seconds.

Lap 173: Debris in turn four brings out another caution.

Lap 168: The race seems to have settled into a groove, with Harvick trailing fourth-place Jimmie Johnson by about 1.5 seconds. He's 5.74 seconds behind leader Denny Hamlin.

Lap 152: Harvick says that the car is too free as he exits the turns.

Lap 138: Harvick gets past the lapped car driven by Elliott Sadler, giving him clear track to fourth-place Mark Martin. He trails Martin by a little less than two seconds.

Lap 126: Harvick moves into fifth place in turn four.

Lap 124: Harvick takes a peak under Kurt Busch for fourth going into turn three, but can't make the move.

Lap 119: Harvick is on Mark Martin's rear bumper, trying to find an opening to get back into the top five.

Lap 115: Crew chief Gil Martin reminds Harvick to have his fans on.

Lap 112: The caution is over, with Harvick listed in sixth place.

Lap 108: Harvick steers the Shell Chevrolet onto pit road. The stop lasts 15.6 seconds. Harvick complains on exit about Ryan Newman pitting short in the stall ahead of his.

Lap 107: Mark Martin is in fourth, about a second and a half in front of Harvick when the caution comes out for debris.

Lap 100: One hundred laps down, 300 to go. Harvick trails leader Jeff Gordon by 4.2 seconds.

Lap 85: The car is loose off the corners, according to its driver.

Lap 82: Harvick's march forward continues as he takes fifth place from Martin Truex Jr.

Lap 74: Harvick takes sixth from Kurt Busch. This may get interesting before the night's over!

Lap 70: Seventh goes to Harvick as he passes Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Lap 69: Harvick is now eighth, 2.1 seconds behind leader Jeff Gordon.

Lap 64: Harvick is seventh on the restart.

Lap 59: Pit road is open, but the team chooses to keep Harvick on the track. A few cars further back in the running order come in.

Lap 58: The caution is out.

Lap 54: Harvick gets under Kyle Busch for seventh place.

Lap 51: Harvick is 10th when the green flag flies again, the same position as before the caution.

Lap 47: Harvick is on pit road. The four-tire stop lasts 15.4 seconds, an improvement over early-race stops over the last several weeks.

Lap 45: Tony Stewart and Reed Sorenson spin in tandem, causing the second caution.

Lap 39: Leader Denny Hamlin has an advantage of 9.17 seconds over Harvick.

Lap 36: Harvick slips under Earnhardt for 10th place in turn four.

Lap 33: Dale Earnhardt Jr. now leads Harvick by just a few car lengths.

Lap 27: Harvick says that is his car is "too tight on the roll." Still 11th, he trails 10th-place Dale Earnhardt Jr. by about a second.

Lap 24: Harvick finally clears Stremme for 11th place.

Lap 21: Harvick and Stremme are still door to door, and they're getting pressure from Juan Pablo Montoya.

Lap 19: Harvick is working David Stremme over, trying to take over 11th place.

Lap 10: The green flag is back out, with Harvick running 14th.

Lap 6: Harvick's spotter tells him that the car looks like it's a rocket off the turns. The driver replies, "I'm just riding ... that's the scary thing."

Lap 5: Scott Speed crashes in turn two to bring out the night's first caution.

Lap 3: Harvick has cleared the double-file traffic, and is now shown in 14th place.

8:12 p.m.: Green flag!

8:11 p.m.: One to go!!!

8:10 p.m.: The field is at the start-finish line now. The green will fall in two laps.

8:09 p.m.: Team owner Richard Childress wishes Harvick well, and tells the team to do as well on pit road tonight as it has in pit practice this week. The field has doubled up.

8:08 p.m.: Harvick says the track looks dry to him. After last week's runnerup finish, he's ready to roll.

8:06 p.m.: The field is rolling off pit road. Tonight's race is 400 laps. Cars will remain single file for the time being, in order to aid in drying the track.

8 p.m.: The command to fire engines is given.

7:54 p.m.: The 29th Army Band from the Virginia National Guard plays an instrumental version of the National Anthem.

7:53 p.m.: Rev. Joe Ellison is giving the invocation.

7:52 p.m.: United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Kris Plant leads the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Race Day, 7:40 p.m.: Track drying continues at Richmond. The gameplan is to hopefully get the green flag in about 20 minutes.

Pre-Race: The car Kevin Harvick will be driving this weekend was built just a few weeks ago. It's the first time the car will see action on the track.

In 17 career Cup starts at Richmond, Harvick has one win, four top-five and 10 top-10 finishes. Harvick has led a total of 679 laps in the last nine Cup races at Richmond, more than any other driver.

Richard Childress has a total of 111 starts as a Cup owner at Richmond. His teams have won seven races here -- five with Dale Earnhardt and one each with Harvick and Clint Bowyer.

Harvick qualified 19th for tonight's event. It's his third straight start inside the top 20, and his best at Richmond since the spring of 2005.
