Kevin Harvick: New Hampshire

Lap 299: It's Allmendinger around again right in the middle of the frontstretch, Harvick goes to the low side to avoid him -- and then NASCAR officials let the field race to the checkered flag with Allmendinger's car almost stopped. Harvick is credited with 32nd place, unofficially.

Lap 297: Green with three laps to go.

Lap 296: Lining them up for the restart. With the damage to Earnhardt Jr.'s car, Harvick has moved up to 32nd.

Lap 293: A.J. Allmendinger spins to bring out caution No. 10.

Lap 290: Ten laps to go.

Lap 286: Back to green. Harvick remains 33rd, two laps behind Scott Speed.

Lap 282: Dale Earnhardt Jr. goes around and hits hard, bringing out the yellow again.

Lap 281: We're green.

Lap 275: The caution is out.

Lap 274: Harvick is back on the track but lost five laps. He's 33rd.

Lap 269: Harvick heads back into the pits and the crew raises the hood to see what might be the problem. It may be a loose brake line on the right-front tire. "I can smell the fluid," Harvick says. Martin decides to clamp the damaged line in an effort to get Harvick back on the track. It turns out to be brake pads that are completely used up.

Lap 266: Harvick reports back, "I'm out of brakes."

Lap 265: The No. 29 crew turns in a 15-second stop, and Harvick returns to the track in 28th position.

Lap 264: Harvick heads for pit road for what should be his final stop. Four tires and a track bar adustment.

Lap 263: Harvick is commenting about seeing some piece of debris in the groove. It looks perhaps like a piece of metal, but the spotter says NASCAR officials think it's just a clump of rubber.

Lap 260: Forty laps remaining. Harvick is 16th, still awaiting his final pit stop.

Lap 251: With many of the leaders pitting, Harvick is up to 20th. However, he still needs service.

Lap 248: Harvick asks, "We need to get the track bar back down and get four tires on it, right?" Martin's reply, "10-4."

Lap 243: The leaders are beginning green-flag stops.

Lap 238: "It's bouncing all the way through the corner," Harvick reports. "As bad as it's been all day."

Lap 227: Harvick on the radio: "It's so freaking sideways, you can't touch the gas in the corner." He's now 25th, and the last thing the No. 29 team wanted to see was a long green-flag run right here.

Lap 225: Bobby Labonte gets by and now Harvick finds himself in a battle with Joey Logano.

Lap 220: The radio is quiet as Harvick rides around in 23rd, badly needing service.

Lap 210: Struggling with handling problems, Harvick is back to 23rd and finds himself under attack from Bobby Labonte.

Lap 200: Two-thirds of the way and Harvick is running 20th but has handling issues.

Lap 199: "It's so sideways I can't hardly drive it," Harvick says.

Lap 197: Green and Montoya immediately ducks inside Harvick to make it three-wide through Turns 1 and 2.

Lap 193: The pits are open and Harvick heads for service. With a two-tire stop, he's now 13th, in front of Jeff Gordon, Juan Montoya, Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart, who had a long stop to fix an axle cap issue.

Lap 192: David Stremme spins behind Harvick, bringing out the caution. "This thing gets better every time we raise it up," Harvick says about the track bar. "How'd it feel on two tires?" Martin asks. "OK," is the reply. The team will try a two-tire stop in an effort to regain some lost track position.

Lap 184: Harvick passes David Stremme and Bobby Labonte, moving him up to 17th, the best he's been since early in the event.

Lap 183: Harvick gets around Elliott Sadler and is back up to 19th.

Lap 179: Getting set to go green again. Harvick's listed as 20th, on the outside of David Stremme.

Lap 175: Jeff Burton goes around. Harvick stays low to avoid trouble. He's now 21st.

Lap 174: Harvick lines up 23rd for the restart. Harvick and his spotter have a discussion about Tony Stewart's loose axle cap just before the green flies.

Lap 170: Pit road is open. Harvick is the first of the lead-lap cars to pit, as most of the leaders stay out. Martin asks a crewman to pull the left-front fender out before Harvick leaves. "No hurry, no hurry" is the word from the spotter.

Lap 168: Martin's call: Four tires and raise the track bar one.

Lap 167: Huge multi-car accident on the backstretch just behind Harvick. "Let's put some tires on it and practice pit stops," Harvick says. "Let's pit here and make something happen. I'm guessing the ones behind us were caught up in that."

Lap 165: Harvick is stuck on Clint Bowyer's outside on the restart.

Lap 164: Harvick is 24th after the stop, and he's unhappy with the decision to go with two tires instead of four, especially losing four spots on the track.

Lap 162: As Harvick heads down pit road, he says, "What are we doing, Gil?" "Two, everybody's hollering two."

Lap 161: The caution flag flies. "It was a little spongy at the start but then it got better after that," Harvick reports. He and Martin debate the idea of going with two tires on this stop.

Lap 160: Harvick goes side-by-side with David Stremme for 19th.

Lap 156: Harvick moves around the slowing machine of Sam Hornish Jr., then makes a pass on David Ragan. He's back to 20th.

Lap 146: We're back to green-flag racing. Harvick is battling Kyle Busch for position.

Lap 143: Harvick is now 24th and frustrated. In the box, Martin says, "One hundred-fifty to go. We're going to catch a break here. Long ways to go."

Lap 142: Martin calls for a four-tire stop. Harvick is down and away in 14.8 seconds.

Lap 141: Caution for debris. Leaders were about five laps from pitting. "That seems to happen a lot," Harvick says.

Lap 137: Kyle Busch goes away, putting Harvick back in 26th.

Lap 136: Martin reports the leaders may begin to pit in the next 12 laps. Harvick can stay out longer, having pitted during the last caution.

Lap 134: Harvick's 25th position has remained static for the last few laps, as he sits behind Jamie McMurray, the next car in line. He's some 25.5 seconds behind leader Kurt Busch.

Lap 120: Harvick gets underneath Kyle Busch and completes the pass for 25th position.

Lap 117: Harvick is not alone in his misery. In front of him is Kyle Busch and behind him is Matt Kenseth, who both narrowly missed the Chase last weekend at Richmond.

Lap 114: "Every time it hits the spring, it just chatters the tires," is the report from the cockpit.

Lap 106: Harvick reports the wheel hop is back, plus the car won't turn and is loose entering the corner. "We've got to figure out what we screwed up here."

Lap 100: One-third of the way through the Sylvania 300, and Harvick is 26th.

Lap 94: David Ragan works his way past to put Harvick 25th, with A.J. Allmendinger continuing to apply pressure from behind.

Lap 92: Harvick finds himself in heavy traffic, running 24th.

Lap 90: The green flag is out and we're back under way.

Lap 88: Harvick is now 23rd and will start on the inside of Kyle Busch.

Lap 86: Harvick is the first of the lead-lap cars to hit pit road, so Martin calls for a four-tire stop in an effort to get fresher rubber and perhaps out of sync with the rest of the leaders.

Lap 85: Caution No. 2 is for debris in Turn 3. "It's turning better," Harvick said. "I'm just a little bit too free right now." The wheel hop seems to have been significantly less during that short run. Harvick and Martin are discussing whether to take two tires in an effort to gain some track position.

Lap 83: Harvick has settled in behind Logano for 18th and has a little bit of a cushion between himself and Greg Biffle for now. The radio frequency has remained quiet, except for spotter commands.

Lap 77: Joey Logano gets by for the position, as Harvick finds himself in the middle of a three-wide sandwich.

Lap 76: Harvick passes Busch for 17th but he's still stuck in two-by-two traffic.

Lap 74: Kevin Harvick lines up to the outside of Kyle Busch -- and right behind teammate Clint Bowyer -- for the restart.

Lap 69: Martin radios back that the right-front tire built up six pounds of pressure during that run. "Well, it ought to have, with all the bouncing," Harvick replies.

Lap 68: The pit stop takes 17.8 seconds and Harvick remains 18th.

Lap 67: Kasey Kahne slows with what appears to be a blown engine, bringing out the first caution. Harvick and Martin continue to discuss the wheel hop issue. Pit road is open. Martin calls for a four-tire stop.

Lap 59: Harvick's slide has slowed somewhat, but he's more than 22 seconds behind leader Tony Stewart and could be in danger of getting lapped if the race remains green.

Lap 53: Jeff Burton and A.J. Allmendinger get by, dropping Harvick to 19th, seven spots farther back than where he started the race.

Lap 49: Harvick is now under attack from Sam Hornish Jr. and Brian Vickers, as he drops back to 17th. "This is terrible," Harvick says. "It's like you took all the springs and shocks off it."

Lap 47: Dale Earnhardt Jr. goes by to take away 14th position.

Lap 44: Harvick reports the car is "really, really, really hopping now." He's in 14th, some 16 seconds behind the leader.

Lap 41: Harvick is under attack from Ryan Newman for 13th as he battles a car not to his liking.

Lap 37: Mark Martin goes underneath Harvick for 12th.

Lap 26: Harvick is complaining of some bounce as he brakes for the corners. Martin says they'll try to take some wedge out in an effort to help the car turn and perhaps combat some of the recoil of the right front shock.

Lap 23: Harvick radios back, "I can't get in [to the corner], I can't get through the middle and I can't get off. Let me move around and see if I can find something." He's been passed by David Reuitmann and is turning laps in the 124 mph range.

Lap 15: Harvick catches and passes Bobby Labonte. He's back to 11th, 8.7 seconds behind leader Juan Montoya.

Lap 11: Jimmie Johnson squeezes past Harvick on the back straight to take away a position. Harvick radios that he's too tight off the corners.

Lap 8: Harvick makes the pass low on Busch and is in 11th.

Lap 3: David Reutimann and Harvick battle side-by-side for 12th as the field remains bunched up following the start. Harvick finally clears him and goes to work on Kyle Busch.

2:17 p.m.: Green flag for the Sylvania 300.

2:16 p.m.: Crew chief Gil Martin tells the crew to have a good day. "We're aren't worried the points today, just go out and win."

2:15 p.m.: On the pace lap, Harvick checks his tachometer for the pit road speed. It should read 5,100 rpms.

2:08 p.m.: The command is given to fire the engines, and we're just a few minutes away from the start.

2:02 p.m.: Josh Turner performs the National Anthem as pre-race activities continue.

Race Day, 1:15 p.m. ET: Sunshine, blue skies and temperatures in the upper 60s in Loudon, N.H., a perfect day for racing. Green flag is scheduled for 2:15.

Pre-Race: Kevin Harvick will pilot Chassis No. 285 from the Richard Childress Racing stable this weekend. In its first appearance since being built a few weeks ago, Harvick drove this car to a ninth-place finish at Richmond International Raceway last weekend.

In 17 Cup races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Harvick has earned one win (fall 2006), one pole (fall 2006), three top-five and nine top-10 finishes. Additionally, Harvick has earned a 13.1 starting average and a 13.8 finishing average and has completed all but 49 laps at New England’s “Magic Mile” during that span. Harvick has finished in the top 20 in 13 of those 17 events, and led 318 laps.

Harvick's qualifying lap of 131.724 mph was good enough for the 12th starting position in Sunday's Sylvania 300.
