Lap 400: Harvick finishes 12th. The team fought handling problems most of the day, but at the end, seemed relatively satisfied with the direction it was headed at the end of the day.
Lap 391: With 10 laps to go, Harvick has a shot at a top-10 finish. He's just behind 10th-place Ryan Newman and 11th-place Carl Edwards.
Lap 384: Another teammate, Clint Bowyer, falls to Harvick. He's now shown in 12th place.
Lap 383: Harvicks takes 13th from teammate Casey Mears.
Lap 380: Twenty laps to go ... Harvick is 14th, 7.21 seconds behind leader Jimmie Johnson.
Lap 375: The field gets three wide in front of Harvick, but the drivers involved sort things out without incident.
Lap 374: The caution ends with Harvick in 15th place.
Lap 371: The frontrunners stay on the track, but about the last half of the field drops onto pit road. Harvick takes on tires, fuel and adjustments in 14.4 seconds.
Lap 369: Sam Hornish Jr. loses control off turn two to bring out another yellow flag.
Lap 365: Harvick isn't happy. He asks, "How the hell did this thing get so tight?!?"
Lap 359: Harvick complains that the car is now "tight as hell."
Lap 356: Brian Vickers gives up 13th place to Harvick.
Lap 351: Harvick's spotter tells him very quickly to check up for A.J. Allmendinger, who slowed on the bottom of the track.
Lap 348: The green flag is back out. Harvick is 14th.
Lap 347: Just before the green, team owner Richard Childress tells Harvick that it looks like his car is getting a real good bite lower coming off the turns.
Lap 344: Harvick pits during the caution for four tires. It's another fine stop. This one takes 14.6 seconds to finish up.
Lap 342: An accident on the frontstretch involving Regan Smith, Elliott Sadler and Martin Truex Jr. causes another caution.
Lap 340: Harvick says the car is "waaaaaaay tight."
Lap 335: Harvick is working on Carl Edwards, but can't swing the move just yet.
Lap 329: Harvick is 14th on the restart.
Lap 327: Harvick is on pit road for what should be the final time today. The stop takes 15.4 seconds to complete.
Lap 325: The caution is out for debris. The car has started to get a little bit free going into the turns, but it's still tight off.
Lap 311: Marcos Ambrose finally gives up 14th to Harvick coming off turn two.
Lap 305: Harvick is trying to get past Marcos Ambrose to take over 14th, but it isn't working just yet. He says the car is still too tight.
Lap 300: With just 100 laps to go, the race is headed into the homestretch. Harvick is 15th, 12.4 seconds behind race leader Jimmie Johnson.
Lap 287: Harvick says the car is now "tight, tight, tight."
Lap 278: The green flag flies once more, with Harvick shown in 16th place.
Lap 275: The team's fifth pit stop of the day lasts 14.8 seconds.
Lap 274: Harvick asks for another water bottle, because the one he has is evidently clogged.
Lap 273: David Stremme's mishap brings out the caution.
Lap 271: Harvick's next scheduled pit stop will be in about 20 laps.
Lap 269: There's "no rear grip" in the car, says its driver.
Lap 261: Casey Mears goes to the high side to take 13th from Harvick, and then Greg Biffle follows to the low side. Harvick hasn't said anything in the last few minutes about his car getting worse.
Lap 246: Handling has been an issue for Harvick all afternoon. He's now loose getting into the turns.
Lap 241: Harvick is still in 13th, 12.77 seconds behind leader Jimmie Johnson.
Lap 212: Harvick is 13th when the green flag comes back out.
Lap 208: Harvick pulls onto pit road. It's a good stop that takes just 14.2 seconds to finish.
Lap 207: The caution is out for Kyle Busch's brush with the wall. Harvick and Martin immediately start making plans on what changes to make on their upcoming pit stop.
Lap 201: The race has reached the halfway point. Harvick is in 15th place, 14.34 seconds behind leader Jimmie Johnson.
Lap 193: Harvick says the car is now better. Crew chief Gil Martin replies that it's because a cloud is now over the track, instead of the sunny conditions in which most of the race has been run.
Lap 187: "Whatever you did, put it back," Harvick insists, referring to changes made on the last stop.
Lap 180: The car "is all over the place," says Harvick.
Lap 168: The green flag is back out.
Lap 164: Harvick pits, and it takes another 15 seconds flat to complete the stop.
Lap 163: The caution is out for liquid on the track.
Lap 137: Settled into 15th, Harvick is trailing teammate Casey Mears. The handling on Harvick's car evidently goes away once he gets behind someone.
Lap 116: Harvick says the car is "a lot better now."
Lap 113: Harvick has been able to pick his way up to 15th. He says that the car is better now that he's cleared traffic.
Lap 95: The car is "plowing," according to Harvick.
Lap 94: Harvick takes 17th place from Hamlin.
Lap 91: Harvick is 18th on the restart.
Lap 88: Denny Hamlin has some damage on his car after driving into the side of Matt Kenseth on pit road. Harvick has been describing the damage to his spotter, news that is in turned being relayed to Hamlin's eye in the sky.
Lap 87: Harvick steers into his stall, which now has empty stalls in front and behind, which should make things easier this aftrernoon. This time, the native Californian is in his space for 15 seconds flat.
Lap 85: Michael Waltrip's accident brings out the caution. Harvick says, "All of a sudden, the right front tire felt like it had a million pounds of air in it."
Lap 80: Harvick comes on the radio and very quickly says, "Something ain't right. All of a sudden, the right front tire is sliding." He's giving up ground.
Lap 69: Harvick finally gets past Vickers going into turn one. He's now 16th, 11.83 seconds behind leader Kurt Busch.
Lap 62: Harvick has been following in Brian Vickers' tire tracks for several laps, but so far, he hasn't been able to figure out a way to make a move.
Lap 51: The driver continues, referring to the changes made on the day's first pit stop, "Did nothing to help me." Moments later, he adds, "If anything, it made me tighter."
Lap 49: Harvick says that his car is "Still too tight."
Lap 43: Now out of traffic that cost him after the restart, Harvick is running 17th.
Lap 39: Harvick is mired in wicked traffic. He's dropped back to 18th.
Lap 37: Harvick is 15th when the green flag comes back out.
Lap 33: Pit road is open, but only a few cars near the end of the pack come in.
2:58 p.m.: Cars are rolling again.
Lap 32: The field is brought to a stop on the backstretch.
Lap 32: There's a terrible crash in turn four, in which Joey Logano flips several times. Reed Sorenson, Robby Gordon and Martin Truex Jr. are also involved.
Lap 31: On the restart, Harvick is shown 15th in the running order.
Lap 27: Leaders are on pit road. The crew bolts on four tires and makes a chassis adjustment in 14.2 seconds. It's a great stop, especially considering the difficulties the team has had in the pits this season.
Lap 26: The competition yellow is out.
Lap 25: Harvick says the car is now tight all the way through the corners.
Lap 22: Harvick has moved up to 14th. He trails leader Jimmie Johnson by 10.08 seconds.
Lap 20: There will be a competition caution in about six laps.
Lap 12: The Shell Chevrolet is tight off the corner, but Harvick wants to wait to see how changing track conditions will impact its handling.
Lap 9: Harvick moves under Sam Hornish Jr. for 16th in turn two.
Lap 4: Harvick is side by side with points leader Mark Martin.
2:17 p.m.: Green flag! Harvick is starting 20th for today's race, which is scheduled for 400 laps, 400 miles.
2:16 p.m.: Richard Childress wishes Harvick well today.
2:15 p.m.: Harvick's spotter tells him that the entrance to pit road and a few places on the apron are still damp from last night's rain.
2:12 p.m.: The field begins to roll off pit road.
2:08 p.m.: Sgt. John Jones of the United States Army has given the command to fire engines. That's a beautiful sound!
2:01 p.m.: The group Trailer Choir is singing the National Anthem.
Race Day: 2 p.m.: Rev. Dan Shafer is giving the invocation.
Pre-Race: The car Kevin Harvick is driving this weekend is brand new. In 17 Cup starts here, Harvick has posted two top-five and six top 10s. Harvick's best Cup finish at Dover to date is a third in June 2006.
Team owner Richard Childress has four wins at the Dover oval, three with Dale Earnhardt and the most recent by Jeff Burton in September 2006.
